Samar Elhussieny, Executive Director of the Egyptian Human Rights Forum, took part in a panel titled “Networked Repression: Countering Transnational Crackdowns”, held as part of the Forum 2000 Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, on Monday, October 13, in cooperation with People in Need.
Moderated by Christopher Walker, Vice President of the Center for European Policy Analysis and member of the Forum 2000 Program Council, the discussion explored the growing phenomenon of transnational repression — how authoritarian regimes increasingly coordinate through informal, cross-regional alliances to target human rights defenders, journalists, and political opponents, both online and offline.
In her remarks, Samar Elhussieny addressed the alarming escalation of cross-border repression against Egyptian dissidents, stressing the need for a proactive, coordinated democratic response that dismantles these repressive networks and ensures real protection for activists and human rights defenders worldwide.
The session also featured:
-
Chiara Adamo, European Commission
-
Emin Abbasov, Independent Lawyers Network
-
Anh Tuan Nguyen, Vietnamese Advocates for Change
Through this participation, the Egyptian Human Rights Forum reaffirms that defending democracy and human rights is no longer a national matter — it is a shared global responsibility to confront transnational repression in all its forms.
