The undersigned organizations express their grave concern regarding the continued lack of information concerning the fate of student <\/span>Ahmed Hassan<\/b><\/a>, whose whereabouts have remained unknown since April 1, 2019, in the absolute absence of any official response to date.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ahmed Hassan, who was 18 years old at the time of his disappearance, vanished on April 1, 2019, while on his way to attend a graphic design training course in Cairo, near his residence in the Al-Moqattam district. Since that date, his family has exhausted all legal avenues to inquire about his location; however, they have received no official information regarding his fate, reflecting a prolonged state of open-ended absence and profound uncertainty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since his disappearance, his family like many others lived between hope and anguish. This persistent absence constitutes a massive humanitarian burden that transcends the family, affecting society as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n

This case is not an isolated incident but rather reflects a broader reality faced by numerous families in<\/span> Egypt<\/span><\/a> who continue to seek answers regarding the fate of their loved ones. Human rights reports have documented hundreds of cases annually during certain periods, and thousands over the past years, amidst a systematic lack of clear official information.<\/span><\/p>\n

Families play a fundamental role in preserving memory. Women, particularly mothers, bear a pivotal responsibility in upholding names and stories, keeping the presence of the disappeared alive in daily life, and persisting in asking questions that remain unanswered.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, Ahmed Hassan\u2019s family launched a symbolic initiative titled “Plants of Memory.” This initiative involves planting a tree or flower in the name of a disappeared or missing person, a quiet act of remembrance that preserves names and narratives, affirming that absence does not equal erasure. It further encourages the families of the forcibly disappeared to cling to hope and continue demanding that Egyptian authorities reveal the fates of their loved ones and grant them communication.<\/span><\/p>\n

The undersigned organizations call upon the Egyptian authorities to:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Immediately disclose the whereabouts of student Ahmed Hassan Mostafa, guarantee his physical and psychological integrity, and allow him immediate and unconditional contact with his family and lawyers, as well as revealing the fate of all victims of enforced disappearance in Egypt.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Implement all judicial rulings issued in his favor, foremost among them the ruling by the Administrative Court on March 14, 2020, which mandated the Ministry of Interior to reveal his location.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Accede to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and harmonize national legislation with Egypt's international obligations in this regard.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
