On the occasion of the International Day Against Torture and the 40th anniversary of the UN Convention Against Torture, the Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF) co-hosted a side event within the UN Human Rights Council chambers. Organized in collaboration with Dignity, REDRESS, and the Committee for Justice, the event was titled “Torture in Egypt: Erasure of Survivors in European-Egyptian Partnership Agreements?”.
The discussion focused on the systematic use of torture in Egypt, the marginalization of survivors, and the complicity of international agreements, particularly between Europe and Egypt, in overlooking these human rights violations. The event underscored the urgent need for accountability and reforms within the framework of international partnerships to prioritize the rights and protection of torture survivors.
