Samar El-Husseiny, Executive Director of the Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF), discussed with Kajsa Ollongren, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, the growing phenomenon of transnational repression worldwide and the threat it poses to the sovereignty of democracies, as well as the increasing risks faced by human rights defenders and political activists.
The meeting also addressed ways for the European Union and its member states to respond to this phenomenon, including developing effective mechanisms to protect activists and political refugees, both within Europe and beyond.
